The “Snack” Decor Pikmin can be found near mini-marts, just like the “Bottle Cap” Decor Pikmin. Next time you go out to pick up some drinks and snacks, be on the lookout for seedlings with the mini-mart icon in the area!

This time we’ll be sharing some interesting info about snacks. Share these fun facts at a picnic with your friends and you’re guaranteed to become the life of the party!

1) Potato chips are the result of one picky customer?

Have you heard the story that the wildly popular potato chip was invented by a chef back in 1853 in order to satisfy an unhappy customer?

Apparently, an American chef named George Crum was working at a New York hotel restaurant when a customer repeatedly sent back his order of fried potatoes for being “too thick.” Crum cut the potatoes thinner and thinner until he was deep frying wafer-thin pieces for the man, who loved them.

They became an instant hit, and gave birth to the modern potato chip. You could say that the light, crunchy chips we enjoy today are the result of one chef’s determination to satisfy his customers.

2) Gummies have been around for more than 100 years!

Coming in all different colors, shapes, sizes, and flavors, gummies can be as fun to look at as they are to eat. Did you know that there are even Pikmin gummies that were released last year? It’s true, and they’re still available in Japan!

Gummies were invented way back in 1920, making them just over 100 years old! It’s said the German company Haribo was the very first to create the gummies we know and love today. The word “gummy” even comes from the German word meaning “rubber.”

Recently there have even been dietary supplement gummies meant for getting your vitamins! Whether for kids or for adults, there are all kinds of gummies out there to enjoy. Getting your vitamins through gummies is good and all, but don’t forget to get out there and walk with your Pikmin to stay healthy too!

3) Oil and sugar content is the difference between cookies and biscuits

There are plenty of ways to enjoy your coffee or tea, but nothing complements them quite like the sweets commonly known as cookies or biscuits. Sometimes it can be hard to tell these two sweet treats apart though. So, what is the difference, anyway?

According to the Japan Biscuit Association, biscuits are defined as baked sweets made primarily from sugar, oil, and wheat flour. In 1971, they further defined a cookie as a kind of biscuit with a “homemade look” and whose combined fat and sugar content account for 40% or more of its total weight.

Though as any Americans out there know, “biscuit” means something else entirely in the US, where they are more akin to bread rolls. And in England, the word “cookie” is rarely used, as “biscuit” refers to both types of sweets. These terms vary by region, don’t they?

4) The world’s oldest dessert has 5,000 years of history!

Italy is famous for its sweet treats like gelato and tiramisu, but have you ever heard of “seadas” before?

This traditional dessert has been around for approximately 5,000 years in Sardinia, an island with a rich culture unique from that of the Italian mainland.

Requiring few ingredients, seadas are easy to make and have a simple yet delectable flavor. These uncomplicated desserts are enjoyed by many, particularly during special events like Easter and Christmas.

5) Chocolate originally began as a drink?

Do you tend to reach for a bite of chocolate when craving something sweet to eat?

If so, you’re not alone. Today, people the world over love this easily-obtained treat. During the Mayan civilization, however, historians believe that cacao—the main ingredient of chocolate—was used as a form of currency. Therefore, only the wealthy could afford to mix powdered cacao with hot water into a luxurious chocolate drink.

The solid chocolates we enjoy today were invented in 1847 when cocoa butter and sugar were added to the cocoa powder instead of hot water. This new addition prevented the treat from melting, thus creating chocolate that could be eaten chilled or at room temperature.

Nowadays there are many different flavors of chocolate, including dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, and many more!

So, did you learn something new today? From their histories and ingredients to their health effects, some of our most familiar snacks can still feature some hidden surprises! It kind of makes you hungry too, doesn’t it? In that case, what better time to head out for a walk to your nearest mini-mart with Pikmin Bloom?
